I somehow forget what the comment section is like and lose faith in humanity again. Do people not realize that we have families and we’re just trying to do our jobs? Wtf.

not all dealerships!
It’s like not all bmw drivers are asshats, but the stereotype is there for a reason.
In my experience, most dealerships, will try to take advantage of their customers. Sure they give a bad rep to the rest.

I agree completely, I find myself spending less time here with all the hate towards “stealerships”, but I'm also moving over to the service side next month, no more sales for me.

What prompted the switch and how did the conversation start?

I find that it’s just the 5% ruining car sales for the other 95%. Most dealerships consist of good, honest guys who are just trying to make a living.

They’re not really railing against the ‘individuals’ They just frame it that way. What they’re truely bugged by is the opaque system of no set prices. It isn’t consumer friendly.
It’s the same with all those types of systems. Ex: people don’t hate ‘Bob’ the consumer advocate lawyer...they hate ‘lawyers’ because the law process is difficult to understand for a layman and occasionally produces non-intuitive results.

My production has been declining the last few months and I just don't have the mentality for it anymore, my sister was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that made me recognize some of those tendencies in myself, so I just asked my GM if he had anything else I could do instead. They want me to finish this month in sales and then I'll probably just start at lube tech with our service department.

Yeah. Unfortunately, the fact that most people feel that dealership=stealership is simply because of bad experiences with the other 5%

Its unfortunate. And I feel like most other industries don’t get the scrutiny that we do.

My dad sold insurance for 30 years. He actually cared a lot more about people than almost anyone else I ever met. Maybe it’s just you...

I think dealerships vary a lot. Most are run by decent people (though they take advantage of the relative ignorance of many customers). I worked in one like that and it sounds like you did too. The problem areas are like the ones I encountered in Louisiana assisting lawyers with a tort case. This dealership specifically screened for customers that couldn’t read and sold them flood/hurricane cars. You’d think this would be a few people but it was well over a hundred and it took years for them to be caught. Situations like that justify some criticism.
I’ve worked in a bunch of hated professions. I moved from used car sales to teaching. Just have to have a thick skin.

I’ve also worked the food industry, retail, and corporate. Youd be suprised which one brought me the most sketchy people...
